I’ve been a proofreader for 4 (wild!) years. 🥳
Funny mistake EVERY HUMAN makes? 🫣
Proofreading at a speed as if they’re reading a book, article, or newsletter, whether for learning or leisure.
But those books, articles, and newsletters (including this one!) have been meticulously proofread and there is only a tiny chance mistakes are still on the page. When we’re proofreading unfinished work, we have to adapt our brains to the process and adjust our reading speed.
A better way?
Slow it way down 🐌 and read the words out loud. (Starting right now!)
Force yourself to process the words in this slower, careful way, and notice how often your brain tries to fill in or skip over incorrect words, potentially causing to you to miss them.
(If you were reading out loud, hopefully you caught that.) 👀
Now imagine how many brians could have been on this page (instead of brains 🧠) if I’d proofread at a normal reading speed.
